Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the morning of the 29th, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and a working delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade attended the first Vietnam Fruit Festival held in Beijing, China. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnamese Embassy in China, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, and various Chinese partners.

The Vietnam Fruit Festival was held at the Xinfadi Agricultural Products Distribution Center in Fengtai District, Beijing, China.

In his speech at the Vietnam Fruit Festival, Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that the festival, themed "Vietnamese Fruits – Sweet in All Seasons," was held during the 13th meeting of the Vietnam-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee and was an important trade promotion activity.

Nguyen Hong Dien stressed that Vietnam is considered a paradise for hot fruits and vegetables, with orchards laden with fruit from north to south. The country boasts a rich variety of fruits, including rambutan, longan, green pomelo, watermelon, coconut, dragon fruit, mangosteen, passion fruit, jackfruit, and durian, among others.

Vietnam produces 12 to 14 million tons of fruit annually, meeting both domestic consumption and export demand, with annual export value reaching nearly US$3.5 billion. Besides fresh fruit, Vietnam also exports processed fruit products such as dried fruit, preserves, and fruit juices.

For many years, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China has maintained a positive momentum, bringing tangible benefits to both sides. Economic and trade cooperation has deepened and yielded many significant results. China has consistently been Vietnam's largest trading partner, and Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and its fifth largest trading partner globally. Regarding the supply of fruit and fruit products, Vietnam is currently China's third largest trading partner globally, after Thailand and Chile, and many of its products have gained a foothold in the Chinese market and are well-received by Chinese consumers.

However, recent achievements have not yet been commensurate with the potential, demand, and advantages of both sides. Currently, Vietnamese fruit is mainly exported to China through border trade channels, primarily meeting the needs of markets in southern and southeastern China and provinces bordering Vietnam.

The Vietnam Fruit Festival, held in Beijing, will help implement the outcomes and political resolve reached by the high-level leaders of both countries during General Secretary To Lam and President To Lam's visit to China in August this year. Despite being the first festival, it has already attracted many large Vietnamese fruit exporters and fruit product companies to introduce their products to Chinese consumers.

The festival also includes exchange activities between Vietnamese businesses and Chinese importers and distributors; fruit product tasting events; and a seminar on the export potential of Vietnamese fruits. This provides a good opportunity for Vietnamese producers and suppliers to introduce and promote typical fruit products and brands, find customers, and increase trade exchanges. It also offers Chinese consumers, especially those in Beijing and other northern regions, the opportunity to experience the quality and unique aroma of Vietnamese fruits.

Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that relevant Chinese authorities continue to cooperate to facilitate the inspection and quarantine of goods and customs clearance, resolve issues related to bilateral trade policies, and create favorable conditions for cooperation and trade between enterprises of both countries; and continue to facilitate the export of various Vietnamese fruits and agricultural products to China through formal trade channels.

Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that Vietnam is willing to create favorable conditions for the export of various Chinese fruit products to Vietnam in accordance with the law, while also helping Chinese enterprises to effectively invest and operate in Vietnam. According to Li An, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce of China, China is Vietnam's largest export market for fruits and vegetables. In 2023, Vietnam's agricultural exports to China accounted for 21% of Vietnam's total agricultural exports to the world.

Through joint efforts, high-quality Vietnamese fruits such as durian, dragon fruit, bananas, and mangoes have entered the Chinese market. In addition, Vietnamese coffee and pho are also quite popular among Chinese consumers. (End)
