Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries recently launched a strategic data collection program for high-potential crops, aiming to enhance agricultural competitiveness and solidify the foundation of national food security through crop diversification.
Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Du Wenhua, and Yang Songkuma jointly chaired a special technical meeting focusing on updating and verifying data on the planting of high-potential perennial crops. According to the national plan, rice and cashew nuts are two priority strategic crops. In addition, coconut, durian, pepper, and coffee have also been included in the long-term strategic data framework. Core objectives include clarifying planting distribution, improving data utilization mechanisms, and dynamically tracking planting area to ensure precise alignment between policy and strategy.
To ensure data accuracy, agricultural officials from the commune levels will conduct on-site collection of planting area information. The department is simultaneously promoting a "data-driven" strategy, developing standardized cost analysis templates, and providing specialized training for commune and planning personnel. It is also implementing daily field purchase price monitoring, promoting pesticide reduction and efficiency enhancement technologies, and providing expert training and technical support to grassroots agricultural communities, balancing yield and quality improvement with environmental reduction.
Data from 2025 shows that agriculture will contribute 16.1% to Cambodia's GDP, ranking alongside manufacturing, tourism, and construction and real estate as one of the four major economic pillars. Currently, the country's export-oriented agricultural products cover a diverse range of categories, including rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, pepper, and cashews.
