Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On April 30th, the Battambang Province water supply system in Cambodia officially commenced operation. The project's completion marks a crucial step forward for Battambang and surrounding areas in expanding public service coverage and ensuring the water needs of residents.
Cambodian Minister of Industry and Technological Innovation, Han Vandy, presided over the commissioning ceremony. The project, with a total investment of approximately US$31.77 million, was jointly funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the French Development Agency (AFD), and matching funds from the Cambodian government. Located in Kampot Sirat village, Battambang, construction began in July 2022 and is scheduled for completion in December 2025. The main construction includes a raw water pumping station, a water treatment plant with a daily processing capacity of 50,000 cubic meters, and a 94-kilometer-long distribution pipeline network.

With the new system now operational, the Battambang Provincial Water Authority has seen its water supply efficiency more than double. Minister Han Wandi introduced that the province's daily water supply capacity has increased from 33,520 cubic meters to 83,520 cubic meters, an increase of 148%; this expansion covers an additional 16,798 households, bringing the water supply coverage rate to 76%.
At the ceremony, Ms. Yasmin Siddiqui, Asian Development Bank Country Director for Cambodia, emphasized that a stable and reliable water supply system can not only significantly improve public health and reduce household chores time, but also effectively contribute to local economic growth. She stated that against the backdrop of accelerating urbanization, ensuring access to safe, affordable, and clean water is of great significance for improving social productivity and the quality of life.
