Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – To effectively safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, the Cambodian National Police General Commissariat recently issued a notice announcing a nationwide strengthening of enforcement of the Road Traffic Law, resuming normalized and strict enforcement starting February 2026.

Previously, due to the armed conflict along the Cambodian-Thai border from July 25 to December 31, 2025, traffic enforcement in relevant sections and areas was moderately relaxed to coordinate with overall security and prevention efforts. With the situation stabilizing, traffic violations have recently rebounded significantly, prompting the National Police General Commissariat to decide to restart strict enforcement to curb illegal activities.

Statistics from the National Police General Commissariat show a significant increase in traffic accidents in Cambodia during the period of relaxed enforcement and recently, indicating a serious road safety situation. Specifically, during this period, the number of traffic accidents nationwide increased by 34 compared to the same period last year, a 3% increase; the number of deaths increased by 10%, or 62 people; and the number of injuries increased by 15%, or 209 people. In January 2026, compared to the same period last year, the number of accidents surged by 42, an increase of 19%, with the number of deaths and injuries increasing by 18% and 23% respectively.

This strengthened enforcement is not only a pragmatic measure to address the current road safety situation, but also an important action in line with the seventh government's "Pentagon Strategy" and the "Ten-Year Plan for Road Traffic Safety 2020-2030". The National Police General Commissariat emphasized that it will adhere to a parallel approach of enforcement and public education, focusing on optimizing the road traffic environment, raising the safety awareness of drivers and pedestrians, and promoting a shift in public behavior from passively complying with the law to actively protecting it, in order to reduce casualties and property damage caused by traffic accidents.

The National Police General Commissariat solemnly appeals to all levels of ministries, public and private institutions, NGOs, and the general public to adopt a prudent and responsible attitude and actively cooperate with police enforcement work. Traffic safety concerns every household; only through the concerted efforts of the entire society can we truly implement the safety concept of "zero accidents today and tomorrow" and build a solid road safety barrier.
