Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Recently, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued an official statement regarding the extradition case of Chen Zhi and related legal procedures, which have garnered significant media attention. The spokesperson emphasized that the Cambodian government's decision to extradite Chen Zhi to China is a legitimate sovereign act strictly based on Cambodian domestic law, bilateral judicial assistance agreements, and international law, and has full legal support and factual basis.

The spokesperson pointed out that the Cambodian government's decision to revoke Chen Zhi's Cambodian citizenship has clear legal grounds, and the relevant procedures were strictly implemented in accordance with Article 29, Paragraph 4 of the Nationality Law and Article 52, Paragraph 4 of the Implementing Regulations of the Nationality Law. These legal provisions clearly state that any citizen who obtains Cambodian citizenship through fraudulent means or by providing false information will have their citizenship revoked according to law. An investigation by relevant Cambodian departments confirmed that Chen Zhi engaged in irregularities during the naturalization process. The series of legal actions taken by Cambodia accordingly fully demonstrate its firm stance of upholding the rule of law and strictly enforcing the law, and also highlight the seriousness and impartiality of the law.

The spokesperson further stated that this extradition operation was a normal legal activity in Cambodia's exercise of national sovereignty. It was not only a legal correction of Chen Zhi's illegal naturalization, but also a concrete practice of the Cambodian government fulfilling its domestic legal obligations and international judicial assistance commitments. It aligns with the relevant consensus on judicial cooperation between Cambodia and China, and conforms to the common trend of the international community in combating crime and strengthening judicial cooperation.

The spokesperson emphasized: "This is a standard legal procedure. Any misunderstanding or misinterpretation of this case, disregarding the legal basis, is irresponsible."

The spokesperson stated that through the lawful handling of this case, Cambodia once again demonstrated to the international community its sound system of checks and balances and its strong rule of law. Cambodia will continue to demonstrate its firm commitment in three areas through strict law enforcement: first, ensuring equality before the law and upholding the dignity and authority of the law; second, working closely with partner countries to build a closer transnational law enforcement cooperation network and jointly combat all kinds of illegal and criminal activities; and third, resolutely maintaining regional peace and stability and creating a sound legal environment for high-quality domestic socio-economic development.
