
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Lai Yuqing, a 23-year-old Chinese female director and screenwriter filming a short drama in Cambodia, fell from a building in Phnom Penh and suffered severe injuries. After several days of unsuccessful treatment, she was pronounced dead on January 2nd at the Russian Hospital in Phnom Penh. Lai Yuqing was the director and screenwriter of the work "Love is a Book."
According to a Cambodian police report, the incident occurred at 00:30 on December 30th last year in a rented room on the first floor of a residential building in Phnom Penh. The deceased was subsequently taken to the Russian Hospital at 00:45 that same morning, but succumbed to her injuries at approximately 5 PM on January 2nd.
According to the police report, the ground floor of the building was the landlord's residence, while the first and second floors were rented out. The first floor was rented to an Indian man and a Chinese woman who knew Lai Yuqing, while the second floor was rented to a French man.
Surveillance footage shows that around 11:22 PM on December 29th, a French man returned to his residence and opened the gate, where the deceased was standing outside. The deceased was then brought inside and taken to the upstairs living area. Around 12:30 AM on December 30th, surveillance footage recorded conversations upstairs, after which the deceased fell from a height. An Indian man and a Chinese woman immediately came downstairs to check on the injured person and helped them up.
The death certificate issued by the hospital indicates that the deceased died from severe head and body impacts. Police also collected fingerprints from the railing at the scene as evidence for further investigation.
The deceased's father traveled from China to Cambodia after the incident to handle the aftermath. He told police that his daughter came to Cambodia in 2024 to work on short drama production with several friends.
Lai Yuqing, whose ancestral home is Fujian, was born in Tianjin and studied in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. She has worked as a director, actress, and musician on numerous short and feature films, including the short film "Love is a Book."
