The Cambodian government continues its efforts to mediate and secure the release of the detained soldiers.

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement on July 3rd in response to recent inquiries from the media and the public regarding the situation of 18 Cambodian soldiers detained by the Thai military.

  The statement indicated that these 18 Cambodian soldiers have been detained by the Thai military for 127 days since the ceasefire agreement took effect (July 29th).

  The Cambodian government is working closely with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and providing mediation to ensure that the detained soldiers receive due treatment in accordance with national humanitarian law; and that their families are fully and promptly informed of their health status.

  During these 127 days, the Cambodian government has consistently prioritized the release of the 18 soldiers and has made unremitting efforts through all possible diplomatic channels, including direct contact with the Thai side; consultations with regional and international leaders; and coordination with relevant international organizations.

  The Cambodian government expresses its deepest gratitude to all relevant institutions that have stood with Cambodia and called for the immediate and unconditional release of these soldiers.

  In addition, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed its willingness to provide necessary support to the 18 Cambodian soldiers when they are repatriated.
