Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On November 27th, the Cambodian Ministry of Information officially released the "Qualifications and Professional Journalism Requirements for Media and Audiovisual Practitioners," further standardizing the qualification standards for media practitioners, including self-media, content creators, and online influencers (internet celebrities). This new regulation aims to strengthen the management of the news industry, comprehensively improve the professional competence of practitioners, and thus ensure the quality and safety of information accessed by the public.
According to the new regulations, applicants for media and audiovisual practitioner positions must be at least 20 years old, hold a bachelor's degree or higher, obtain a professional journalism and audiovisual study certificate issued by the Ministry of Information or its recognized institutions, have at least one year of journalistic work experience, provide a letter of certification from the organization where the article was published or a recent employment contract, and have written and published news articles for at least three news organizations.
In addition to professional experience, applicants must also submit proof of residence and conduct issued by the communal/district government, as well as an official health certificate.
The new regulations place particular emphasis on professional ethics, explicitly stipulating that applicants must not be subject to complaints or criticisms for violations of professional ethics in their articles, videos, images, cultural content, literary works, or use of the Khmer language.
The Cambodian Ministry of Information stated that the implementation of this announcement will have several positive effects, including helping to define professional standards for media and audiovisual industry practitioners; further strengthening industry management and regulating market order; promoting the professionalization of journalism and raising the overall industry level; and improving the quality of information dissemination and public information security.
This move marks a significant step forward for Cambodia in regulating the convergence of emerging and traditional media, and has profound implications for protecting the public's right to know and maintaining a healthy public opinion environment.
