
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the afternoon of November 10th, Kao Lek Myat, Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, met with Rory Mungoven, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The two sides held in-depth discussions on strengthening future cooperation projects between the Cambodian Human Rights Committee and the OHCHR. Cambodia also raised important issues, including its demand for the release of detained Cambodian soldiers by Thailand.
At the meeting, Chairman Kao Lek Myat first warmly welcomed Mr. Rory Mungoven and his delegation, and highly praised the achievements of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee and the OHCHR in past cooperation.
Mr. Rory Mungoven appreciated the Cambodian Human Rights Committee's efforts in demonstrating the importance of human rights in maintaining international order and promoting the rights of homosexuals. He thanked the Cambodian Human Rights Committee for its important recommendations to the OHCHR and confirmed that the OHCHR highly values these recommendations and will continue to monitor the implementation progress of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Declaration to promote a peaceful solution.
During the discussion of regional hotspots, Chairman Kao Lek Myat urged Thailand to release the 18 detained Cambodian soldiers as soon as possible. Meanwhile, President Kao Remy called for a ban on the use of illegally acquired international weapons during the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. He also expressed regret over Sweden's sale of Gripen fighter jets to Thailand during the conflict.

President Kao Remy specifically requested that Mr. Rory Mungovan base his Cambodian human rights report on objective facts.
Mr. Rory Mungovan also inquired about the latest progress in the legislation establishing the National Human Rights Institution of Cambodia. President Kao Remy briefed him on the progress of the legislation and emphasized that under Prime Minister Hun Manet's leadership, the Cambodian government is continuously promoting the implementation of the social protection system and various priority policies.
Mr. Rory Mungovan stated that he would actively pursue the recommendations made by President Kao Remy and submit a special report to the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
