Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Faced with the severe situation of the continued spread of regional digital threats, ASEAN is taking multiple measures to strengthen regional cooperation, focusing on combating cybercrime and online fraud, and building a solid regional digital security defense.
In the ASEAN Chairman's Statement released on May 9, ASEAN explicitly welcomed the various related initiatives. These initiatives focus on three core directions: first, deepening cross-border cooperation mechanisms; second, enhancing regional cybersecurity governance capabilities; and third, improving the protection and assistance system for victims and survivors of online fraud, providing tangible support to affected groups.
ASEAN leaders emphasized the need for a comprehensive, coordinated, and inter-sectoral approach to addressing cybercrime, highlighting the importance of systemic governance. At the same time, all parties highly affirmed the progress made in the ASEAN Inter-Sectoral Work Plan against Trafficking in Persons 2023-2028 and the Monitoring, Assessment, Reporting and Learning Framework (MERL), believing that these two mechanisms provide important support for regional security governance.
Looking ahead, ASEAN leaders explicitly supported the development of version 2.0 of the ASEAN Cultural and Social Community Development Vision Report. This version will focus on a systematic assessment of the multidimensional impact of digital transformation on regional social development, providing a scientific basis for subsequent policy optimization.
Furthermore, leaders emphasized that, given the evolving development needs of the ASEAN Community, promoting data-driven and fact-based policymaking, decision-making, and planning is crucial. ASEAN highly values the continued use of the ASEAN Cultural and Social Community Monitoring and Evaluation Database (ADME), recognizing its core platform value in supporting the effective implementation of Community initiatives.
