Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On April 5th local time, a rally organized by an opposition civic group was held in Saga City, Japan, to protest the deployment of Ground Self-Defense Force V-22 Osprey transport aircraft to the city in July 2025.
According to reports, organizers stated that approximately 250 people attended the rally, holding signs that read "No Osprey" to express their protest and expressing concern that, given the current conflict, Japan, allied with the United States, could become a target, thereby endangering civilian safety.
Shigeaki Iijima, a professor at Nagoya Gakuin University who has long focused on the issue of bases throughout Japan, delivered a speech at the rally and offered his interpretation of the situation in Iran. The lawsuit concerning the deployment of Osprey transport aircraft at the Saga base is currently being heard in the Saga District Court, and Hiroyuki Higashijima, a member of the legal team, briefed attendees on the case's progress.
At a press conference after the rally, Koga Hatsushi, the 77-year-old chairman of the organizing group and a seaweed farmer, said, "I worry every day that people engaged in seaweed farming in the Ariake Sea might lose their lives because of this."
