According to reports from Bolivian Globo TV and other media outlets, the incident occurred at El Alto International Airport near the capital, La Paz, during a hailstorm. A Bolivian Air Force C-130 Hercules transport plane was carrying the new banknotes for the Central Bank of Bolivia when it veered off the runway during landing at El Alto International Airport, colliding with several vehicles and killing 15 people, with many others injured.
Bolivian Defense Minister Marcelo Salinas later confirmed at a press conference that the plane veered off the runway after landing, skidding for approximately one kilometer before crashing. The injured have been taken to hospitals for treatment, and an investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched.
Fire chief Pavel Tovar, who participated in the on-site rescue, stated that at least 15 vehicles were destroyed by the plane, and after intense on-site operations, firefighters had extinguished the fire on the aircraft.
Following the incident, the Bolivian Civil Aviation Authority announced the suspension of operations at El Alto International Airport. (End)
