Tropical Cyclone Ghezani has killed at least 59 people in Madagascar.

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Madagascar's National Office for Risk and Disaster Management reported on the 16th that Tropical Cyclone Ghezzani made landfall in the country last week, injuring over 800 people and killing at least 59.

  According to Reuters, the cyclone has displaced 16,428 people in Madagascar, affecting over 420,000.

  The report stated that at its peak intensity, Ghezzani had sustained winds of approximately 185 kilometers per hour, with gusts approaching 270 kilometers per hour, enough to rip rooftops and uproot large trees.

  The Madagascar Meteorological Department stated that Ghezzani will subsequently cross the Mozambique Channel westward, with forecasts indicating it will circle back into Madagascar for a second landfall.

  AFP reported that the port city of Tuamasina on the country's east coast was severely affected, with a population of approximately 400,000.

  Local media reported that all maritime personnel, including fishermen and those involved in maritime transport, have been asked to suspend their activities until the weather improves.

  On January 31, northwestern Madagascar was hit by Tropical Cyclone Fitia, displacing more than 20,000 people. Madagascar is located in the western Indian Ocean, and December to March is its rainy season and peak tropical cyclone season. (End)
