Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On February 14th local time, the Sudanese non-governmental organization "Sultan Doctors Network" issued a statement via social media stating that a ferry carrying 16 people sank in the White Nile River in the central White Nile State of Sudan at noon that day, leaving 12 people missing.
The statement said that the accident occurred near Gutena, White Nile State. After the accident, rescue workers successfully rescued four people, and the search and rescue operation for the remaining 12 missing persons is still ongoing.
"Sultan Doctors Network" called on relevant Sudanese authorities to strictly review the safety regulations of all operating vessels, ferries, and river transport within Sudan, clearly control load standards, equip themselves with rescue equipment, and formulate rescue measures to ensure the personal safety of Sudanese people and prevent similar tragedies from recurring.
According to reports from media outlets such as the Sudan Tribune, the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Burhan, expressed his condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and promised that the Sudanese government would begin providing necessary facilities.
There are insufficient bridges across the Nile River in Sudan, and residents in rural areas mostly rely on traditional wooden boats to cross the river. Just on February 11, a boat capsizing in the Nile River in northern Sudan's Nile State resulted in 21 deaths, including women, the elderly, and children. (End)
