Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – US President Donald Trump signed documents in Davos, Switzerland on May 22, with representatives from more than ten countries and regions, launching the so-called "Peace Committee." Representatives from Palestine and Israel were not among the signatories.
Trump will serve as the "chairman" of the "Peace Committee." At the signing ceremony on May 22, he stated that the "Peace Committee" will cooperate with the United Nations in handling major regional and global diplomatic issues, but did not specify how this cooperation would take place. He also stated that the US defense budget will increase to $1.5 trillion in fiscal year 2027.
Regarding the Gaza issue, Trump threatened that Hamas would "end" if it did not agree to disarm. He stated that the "Peace Committee" is committed to ensuring the demilitarization, proper governance, and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. He said that as the "Peace Committee" achieves "success" in the Gaza Strip, "we can do a lot more."
Representatives from Argentina, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates signed the documents on the same day. The full list of members of the "Peace Committee" has not yet been released to the public.
According to the Associated Press, the Peace Commission was initially positioned as part of the peace process in the Gaza Strip, but Trump subsequently broadened expectations for the organization, saying it could play a role in mediating other international conflicts. Critics argue that this move by the United States will undermine the authority of the United Nations. Some invited countries have declined to join or have adopted a cautious approach. (End)
