Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – US President Trump signed a memorandum on July 7th, instructing the US government to initiate procedures to withdraw from 66 international organizations, UN agencies, and multilateral mechanisms, including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, arguing that these organizations and agencies "violate US national interests."

The memorandum lists 35 international organizations or multilateral agencies, and 31 UN-based agencies and multilateral mechanisms, including regional commissions under the Economic and Social Council, and special mechanisms related to human rights, gender, children, and African affairs. This list covers numerous institutions and mechanisms related to climate change, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and several renewable energy and climate cooperation platforms.

In the memorandum, Trump stated that continuing as a member, participating in, or supporting in any form the aforementioned international organizations and agencies is contrary to US national interests.

He instructed relevant US government departments to take immediate steps to withdraw from these international organizations as quickly as legally permissible. The memorandum states that, for UN-based agencies and multilateral mechanisms, withdrawal means, to the extent permitted by law, ceasing participation or funding to the relevant entities.

Upon beginning his second term, Trump signed an executive order on January 20, 2025, the day he was sworn in, announcing the United States' renewed withdrawal from the Paris Agreement aimed at addressing climate change and its continued withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO). (End)
