Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On January 6th local time, armed clashes escalated between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by Kurdish armed groups, and forces of the Syrian Transitional Government (TG) in Aleppo, the capital of Aleppo province in northern Syria, resulting in multiple casualties, including civilians.

According to reports from the Syrian National News Agency (SANA), Reuters, and other media outlets, both the TG and the SDF accused each other of instigating the escalation.

The TG's Ministry of Defense issued a statement that day, claiming that the SDF had launched attacks for three consecutive days, leading to the escalation of the conflict. The attacks targeted TG military deployments and residential areas, causing multiple casualties, including one soldier and three civilians killed, and several children injured.

The SDF denied responsibility for the clashes, claiming the casualties were caused by indiscriminate shelling and missile attacks from factions allied with the TG.

According to reports from Syrian news channel Ekhbariya and Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah, civilians in northern Aleppo were forced to evacuate to safer areas after the attack. Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents to "remain vigilant, avoid the city center or conflict zones, and stay away from crowds." He also stated that due to the tense situation in the region, all activities in schools and government offices would be suspended from January 7th.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), currently control large swathes of northern and eastern Syria. The United States has long supported the Syrian Kurdish forces in their fight against remnants of ISIS. Although the SDF and the transitional government have signed an integration agreement, its implementation has not been smooth. Small-scale armed clashes continue to occur intermittently between the two sides in Aleppo province and other areas. (End)
