Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Recent persistent snow and ice weather in France has resulted in at least five deaths. Due to the severe weather, flights at major Paris airports will be largely cancelled on the 7th.

French officials reported that all five deaths were caused by traffic accidents resulting from snowfall and icy roads. Three people died in a traffic accident caused by icy roads in the Landes department of southwestern France on the 6th, and two more died in traffic accidents caused by snow and ice in the Paris region on the evening of the 5th.

French Transport Minister Tabardo urged the public to minimize travel and work remotely at a press conference on the 6th, and advised residents of the Paris region to "avoid all non-essential travel" on the 7th. Currently, heavy trucks are prohibited from traveling in western France and the Paris region, and the speed limit for light vehicles has been further reduced to 70 kilometers per hour.

Tabaro also announced that flights at major Paris airports will be largely cancelled on the 7th. He said that 40% of flights at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on the 7th would be cancelled, and 25% of flights at Paris Orly Airport between 6:00 AM and 1:00 PM on the 7th would be cancelled. He stated that due to the severe weather, staff needed time to clear snow from the runways and de-ic the aircraft.

The French meteorological department indicated that the icy and snowy weather would continue, with 38 departments across France remaining under orange alerts for snow and ice. Snowfall was expected in most parts of France on the 7th, with accumulations of 3 to 7 centimeters, and some areas in the northeast reaching 7 to 15 centimeters. Many parts of France were also experiencing extremely cold weather; in the Oise department of northern France, temperatures dropped to -14.3 degrees Celsius on the 6th. (End)
