Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The UN Security Council held an emergency open meeting on the situation in Venezuela on the 5th. Representatives from many countries spoke at the meeting, pointing out that the US military action against Venezuela violated international law.

On the same day, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Jean-Michel DiCarlo, read a statement from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, saying that the US military action against Venezuela on the 3rd did not respect international law, and that the UN Charter prohibits the use or threat of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Nebenzia, stated that the US action exposed its true purpose: to exert unlimited control over Venezuela's natural resources and establish hegemony in Latin America. Under the current circumstances, the international community must unite and resolutely oppose the US military action against Venezuela. The international community should not allow the US to disregard international jurisdiction, sovereignty, and the principles of non-interference, and to claim itself as the "supreme judge" capable of invading any country, identifying the "perpetrator," and imposing heavy penalties.

Sun Lei, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, stated that China is deeply shocked and strongly condemns the unilateral, illegal, and bullying actions of the United States. As a permanent member of the Security Council, the United States disregarded the serious concerns of the international community, wantonly trampled on Venezuela's sovereignty, security, and legitimate rights and interests, and seriously violated the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful settlement of international disputes, and the prohibition of the use of force in international relations. China firmly opposes this.

Damadicarri, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations, stated that the US military action violated the principles of peaceful settlement of disputes and non-use of force. Permanent members of the Security Council have repeatedly violated the UN Charter and international law, undermining the foundation of the international order. Such actions will shake the foundations of the United Nations and endanger international peace and security.

Zarabatta, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations, stated that Colombia strongly condemns the US military action against Venezuela. This action poses a serious threat to the international order established after World War II. The UN Charter does not allow one country to use force to seize political control of another; the US action blatantly violates international law. Venezuela's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Moncada, who was invited to the meeting, stated that the United States' actions were a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law. Venezuela is facing the threat of "colonialism and neo-colonialism." If the kidnapping of a head of state, the bombing of a sovereign state, and the open threat of further armed action are tolerated or downplayed, the message sent to the world will be devastating. Venezuela demands that the US government immediately release Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife and allow them to return home safely. (End)
