According to the latest data released by the Nepal Tourism Board on January 1st, Nepal is expected to receive over 1.158 million international tourists in 2025, a slight increase compared to 2024.
The data shows that Nepal received 1,158,459 international tourists in 2025, a 0.95% increase compared to 2024, recovering to 96.8% of the pre-pandemic peak in 2019.
In 2019, Nepal received approximately 1.197 million foreign tourists, a record high. Nepal broke its own international tourist arrival records in both 2018 and 2019.
In 2025, Nepal will revitalize its tourism industry through various measures, including relaxing travel permit fees for Upper Mustang, waiving climbing permit fees for 97 peaks, and increasing overseas tourism promotion efforts. These measures aim to consolidate traditional tourist markets while further expanding regional tourist sources.
Despite the impact of large-scale demonstrations in Kathmandu and several major cities in early September 2025 on the tourism industry, Nepal still achieved its third-best record in terms of international tourist arrivals in 2025.
In terms of source countries, India ranked first with 292,438 tourists visiting Nepal in 2025; the United States ranked second with 112,316; and China ranked third with 95,480. The United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Australia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Germany, and Japan were also major source countries for Nepal. (End)
