According to Reuters and Suriname's *True Times*, the man attacked multiple people with a knife between the evening of the 27th and the early morning of the 28th, resulting in the deaths of four adults and five children, four of whom were the man's own children.

The incident also injured the man's 16-year-old daughter and a 72-year-old neighbor, both of whom have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The report states that the man has been arrested by police. It is understood that the man attacked police officers at the scene, and police shot him in the leg before subduing him.

A full investigation into the incident is currently underway. Preliminary investigations suggest the man may be "mentally unstable."

According to the Associated Press, Suriname, located in South America, has long been one of the countries with the lowest murder rates in the region. However, data collected by the U.S.-based Crime Insight organization shows that the country's murder rate surged in 2024. (End)
