  Affected by Tropical Cyclone Ditwa, many parts of Sri Lanka have experienced torrential rains and strong winds, triggering floods, landslides, and other disasters. The Disaster Management Center stated on the 7th that over 80,000 houses were damaged, with nearly 5,000 completely destroyed. The Sri Lankan government has confirmed 627 deaths, including 471 from the central region of the country.

  As the floodwaters gradually recede, the number of people in shelters has decreased from a peak of 225,000 to 90,000 on the 7th. On the same day, Sri Lankan agencies used aircraft to deliver supplies to communities in the central region that were blocked by landslides. The search for the missing continues.

  A senior Sri Lankan official previously stated that post-disaster reconstruction may require $7 billion. The International Monetary Fund stated that it is considering Sri Lanka's request for an additional $200 million in aid for reconstruction.

  Sri Lanka's meteorological department issued a warning on the 5th, stating that due to the northeast monsoon, many parts of Sri Lanka would experience heavy rainfall from the 9th to the 11th. That evening, the National Building Research Organization of Sri Lanka issued the highest-level (Level 3) mudslide warning for five areas: Kandy, Kegala, Kurunegala, Matlay, and Nuwara Eliya.

  Recently, severe weather has also seriously affected Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. According to AFP, natural disasters in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam over the past two weeks have caused at least 1,826 deaths. (End)
