Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Kurdistan Region's (KRG) Department of Natural Resources and Department of Electricity issued a statement saying that a drone attacked the Khormur gas field facilities in the region at 11:30 pm local time on the 26th, causing a disruption in natural gas supply to power plants in the area.
According to AFP, a spokesperson for the KRG's Department of Electricity stated that the attack resulted in a loss of 2,600 megawatts of power. A local security source said the target of the attack was a gas storage tank, which triggered an explosion and fire.
The Iraqi Joint Operations Command stated that there were no casualties and that the attack was intended to disrupt the country's security and economic stability. No organization or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attacked gas facility is reportedly owned by a UAE company. Authorities stated they are coordinating with the company to investigate the attack and restore operations.
According to AFP, a series of drone attacks occurred in the KRG earlier this year, primarily targeting oil fields. (End)
