Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – From November 11th to 13th, the second meeting of the Joint Technical Working Group on the Lancang-Mekong River Merchant Ship Inspection Technical Rules (hereinafter referred to as the "Lancang-Mekong Technical Rules"), jointly formulated by China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand, was held in Tianjin. The parties engaged in in-depth exchanges on the draft revision of the Lancang-Mekong Technical Rules, shared their practical experiences, and reached consensus on most of the revised clauses, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent completion of a comprehensive revision.
The Lancang-Mekong Technical Rules are mandatory technical standards and inspection systems for international shipping merchant ships in the Lancang-Mekong region, jointly formulated by China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. They aim to ensure ship safety and environmental protection, and promote regional shipping safety and sustainable development. As a continuation of the first working meeting in 2024, this meeting focused on collaborative research on revising the current rules, further building consensus to better adapt to the shipping development needs of the Lancang-Mekong River basin.
The meeting was hosted by the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport. Experts and representatives from relevant Chinese maritime management agencies, local transportation departments, and the China Classification Society, as well as delegations from Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand, participated in the meeting. The meeting further enhanced mutual trust among the four parties in the coordination of technical rules, deepened exchanges and cooperation among the Lancang-Mekong River Basin countries in the maritime field, and helped improve the level of ship navigation safety and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the regional shipping industry.
