Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Recently, the parliaments of 45 member states jointly called on Thailand to immediately release the 18 Cambodian armed personnel arrested after the ceasefire agreement took effect, as a gesture of goodwill, to promote mutual trust, and to maintain regional peace and stability.

This call stems from a joint statement issued at the Inter-Parliamentary Conference (ISC) Speakers' Meeting held in Islamabad, Pakistan, from November 11-12. In the statement, the ISC expressed its continued concern over the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand and welcomed the joint statement signed by the prime ministers of the two countries in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 26, a ceremony witnessed by US President Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whose country holds the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN.

However, the ISC expressed serious concern over Thailand's recent decision to suspend the aforementioned declaration and authorize military action against Cambodia, believing that this move would jeopardize the hard-won peace agreement.

The joint statement called on Thailand to respect humanitarian law and international law, promote ASEAN Community building in the spirit of equality and positive coexistence, and urged both sides to adhere to the principles of non-use of force, peaceful settlement of disputes, respect for international borders and sovereignty, fully implement the contents of the joint statement, ease border tensions, rebuild trust, resolve differences through dialogue, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

During the meeting, Soo Yara, Chairman of the Fifth Committee of the National Assembly of Cambodia, spoke on behalf of Senate President Hun Sen, emphasizing that peace is Cambodia's most important cornerstone. He pointed out that Cambodia achieved comprehensive peace in the late 1990s after nearly 30 years of civil war, fully demonstrating the value of the "mutual benefit and win-win" policy and multilateral dialogue. Soo Yara stated that Cambodia will continue to strictly implement the joint statement and make positive contributions to global peace within the framework of the United Nations.
