The U.S. military test-fired a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile without a warhead.

  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command test-fired an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on the 5th.

  According to a statement released by the U.S. Air Force, operators initiated the test launch via the airborne launch control system on an E-6B aircraft. The missile traveled approximately 4,200 miles (about 6,759 kilometers) in its reentry vehicle before arriving at a U.S. military test range in the Marshall Islands.

  The statement said the test launch was intended to evaluate the reliability and operational readiness of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile system.

  According to U.S. media reports, the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile entered service with the U.S. military in the 1970s, and there are currently approximately 400 of these missiles in active service in the United States.
