  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On July 12, 2026, an informal ASEAN meeting on the Myanmar issue was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. The meeting included two agendas: an informal meeting between the ASEAN and Myanmar foreign ministers and expanded informal consultations on the Myanmar issue. It was chaired by Philippine Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Puanquejo, and organized by Maria Theresa Lazaro, Special Envoy for Myanmar of the ASEAN Chair and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines. Foreign ministers and senior representatives from ASEAN member states to China participated.

  The meeting focused on frank, in-depth, and constructive discussions on advancing the response to the situation in Myanmar. Key issues discussed included deepening two-way communication between ASEAN and Myanmar, solidly implementing the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, contributing to Myanmar's peace and stability, and improving the well-being of its people. All parties agreed that ASEAN and Myanmar need to maintain regular direct contact and dialogue, enhance mutual trust and build consensus through positive communication, promote substantial progress in the Myanmar situation, and lay a solid foundation for the orderly resumption of normalized cooperation between ASEAN and Myanmar.

  The meeting clarified that ASEAN will continue to closely monitor the situation in Myanmar, uphold the principle of solidarity and cooperation, and consistently adhere to dialogue, consultation, and consensus-building to help Myanmar resolve its difficulties and achieve lasting peace and stability.

  This meeting marks the beginning of a new phase in ASEAN's efforts to normalize consultations on the Myanmar issue. Going forward, ASEAN parties will continue to explore practical and feasible solutions and plan to further refine cooperation measures and deepen practical collaboration at the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila, Philippines, striving to achieve substantial breakthroughs in improving the situation in Myanmar.
