Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – “In the past, the village had no decent industries, and we had to go out to earn money. Now, with a Ganoderma lucidum (reishi mushroom) base, edible mushroom greenhouses, and rural tourism, villagers can earn money right at their doorstep.” Luo Zhengming, Party Secretary and Village Committee Director of Shanchong Village, Jinping Town, spoke with great emotion about the changes over the years.
Shanchong Village is located in Jinping Town, Jingdong Yi Autonomous County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province. Situated in the extension of the Wuliang Mountain National Nature Reserve, it boasts a forest coverage rate of 78.44%, with the Manlong River flowing through the village, its waters clear and its ecology excellent. However, the village had previously suffered from technological shortcomings and poor sales channels, struggling to increase income despite its beautiful natural environment.
The turning point came in 2012. That year, Zhejiang University began providing targeted assistance to Jingdong County. Professor Chen Zaiming led a team deep into the Wuliang and Ailao Mountains to collect and domesticate local wild mushroom strains. After repeated research and experiments, the team discovered that the temperature, altitude, and water quality conditions in Shanchong Village were extremely suitable for the growth of edible fungi. In 2019, the village was officially selected as the site for the "Yun Jing Tian Zhi Gu" demonstration base.
Under the team's guidance, Ganoderma lucidum cultivation in Shanchong Village achieved a technological leap. Li Xujing, a team member and employee of the Jingdong Management Bureau of the Yunnan Wuliangshan-Ailaoshan National Nature Reserve, explained that in the past, villagers relied on soil cultivation for Ganoderma lucidum, resulting in low yields and unstable quality. Now, they have switched to hydroponics, using standardized greenhouses for large-scale production, and have also cultivated a high-yield spore powder variety, "Jingzhi No. 1," achieving local domestication and propagation of the fungus strain.
After several years of dedicated development, the industry has gradually taken shape. Currently, the "Yun Jing Tian Zhi Gu" demonstration park covers 10 hectares, integrating fungus strain research and development, standardized cultivation, and deep processing. It produces 3,000 kg of Ganoderma lucidum and 2,000 kg of spore powder annually, with a total industrial chain output value exceeding ten million yuan. The small shiitake mushroom industry is also developing simultaneously, with 20 standardized greenhouses producing 50 tons annually. Deep-processed products such as Ganoderma lucidum spore powder and Ganoderma lucidum Pu'er tea have emerged, attracting tens of millions of yuan in investment from enterprises and establishing a complete chain from farm to market.
With the development of industries, popularity has also increased. In 2023, the local government introduced a cultural tourism company to create a demonstration site integrating agriculture, culture, and tourism, relying on the Ganoderma lucidum base. Forest restaurants, ecological pastures, edible mushroom picking, and parent-child study tours have been established. In the first 11 months of 2025, Shanchong Village received over 22,000 tourists, generating over 900,000 yuan in consumption.
With thriving industries, villagers are prosperous. In 2024, the collective economic income of Shanchong Village reached 468,200 yuan, nearly four times that of 2021; the per capita disposable income of villagers reached 22,516 yuan.
He Taiqiang, Chairman of the Jinping Town People's Congress, stated that the next step is to continue improving supporting industries, ensuring tourists can "see, play, eat, stay, and shop," while using Shanchong Village as a model to drive the development of characteristic industries in surrounding villages and achieve contiguous revitalization.
