Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recently issued a notice outlining plans for the 2026 Lunar New Year "Remembering Uncle Ho's Achievements for Generations" Tree Planting Day, and made comprehensive requirements for strengthening forest management and protection and promoting the development and utilization of forest resources.

The notice clarifies that People's Committees of provinces and cities must strengthen publicity and education to enhance the awareness of the value of forests and green trees among departments, regions, and the public—recognizing their crucial role in socio-economic development, environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and improving people's quality of life. At the same time, it encourages social groups, schools, enterprises, and the armed forces to actively participate in afforestation and forest protection, jointly contributing to the construction of a green, clean, safe, and sustainable living environment.

Regarding the organization of the Arbor Day activities during the Spring Festival of the Year of the Horse (2016), the notice outlines specific requirements: First, ensure the activities are conducted efficiently, economically, and safely; second, scientifically select planting times, locations, and tree species based on local ecological conditions, seasonal characteristics, and cultural features; third, prioritize tree planting in residential areas, schools, hospitals, industrial parks, and urban public areas to beautify the landscape, reduce pollution, and create green living spaces; fourth, clearly define the division of responsibilities for post-planting maintenance to ensure a high survival rate of the trees.

Regarding forest management, protection, development, and utilization, the notice outlines a series of deployments: First, provinces and cities must integrate their local socio-economic development plans with the 2026 Forest Protection and Resource Development Plan, effectively coordinating social resources, public investment funds, and other legitimate resources, while simultaneously promoting the implementation of the "Vietnam Forestry Development Strategy," national forestry plans, and key industry projects. Second, strengthen the source and quality management of forestry seedlings, vigorously promote the application of science and technology and biotechnology in the breeding of high-quality local new varieties, and encourage the use of digital and automated technologies throughout the entire process of seedling cultivation, planting, maintenance, and forest management to improve the productivity, quality, and added value of planted forests. Third, promote the application of information technology, digital technology, and artificial intelligence in forest protection and management, improve forest fire prevention plans, strengthen inter-departmental collaboration, and promptly investigate, stop, and punish violations of forestry laws and regulations. Fourth, solidly implement the forest ecosystem service payment policy, promote sustainable forest management and forest certification, develop forest carbon sink services to help fulfill greenhouse gas emission reduction commitments, and fully release the multifunctional value of forest ecosystems through the development of non-timber forest products, understory medicinal herb cultivation, ecotourism, and biodiversity conservation.
