Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – “Vietnam adheres to the path of sustainable development of its marine economy, promotes the healthy and sustainable development of its fisheries industry, rationally adjusts the size of its fishing vessels and fishing methods to match the carrying capacity of fishery resources, and strictly abides by all international and domestic regulations concerning the fight against IUU fishing.”
Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized this point at a regular press conference on the afternoon of November 6, in response to a reporter's question regarding Vietnam's efforts to prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Pham Thu Hang stated that Vietnam's position on combating IUU fishing is consistent and clear.
She pointed out that in recent years, Vietnam has continuously improved its fisheries legal system, enhanced the effectiveness and enforcement of laws, and taken a series of measures to prevent and combat IUU fishing activities, dealing resolutely, seriously, openly, and transparently with violations.
Pham Thu Hang introduced that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently issued the “Plan on Launching a Month-Long Action to Combat IUU Fishing and Promote Sustainable Fisheries Development.” Vietnamese government departments and local governments are continuously carrying out publicity, management, and guidance work, taking concrete measures to guide fishermen to abide by Vietnamese laws and respect the maritime areas of other countries as defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and other international treaties to which Vietnam is a party.
She emphasized: "As an active, proactive, and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam is willing to strengthen cooperation and share experiences with countries in the region and the international community to jointly combat illegal fishing and promote fisheries management towards efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with international law."
