According to a document submitted by the Ho Chi Minh City Construction Department to the City People's Committee, the Con Dao Special Economic Zone plans to officially launch its first electric bus route this December.
According to the plan, electric bus route 173 (Con Dao Special Economic Zone Center – Thao Veng) will be the first to operate, using 28- to 60-seat pure electric buses. The route starts at Con Dao Market and ends at Con Dao Airport, with a total distance of approximately 17.1 kilometers (subject to on-site survey). Operating hours will be from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily, with buses departing approximately every 15 minutes. The one-way journey takes approximately 30 minutes.
The specific route is as follows: Con Dao Market – Pham Van Dong Road – Vu Thi VI Road – Nguyen Hue Road – Ton Duc Thang Road – Nguyen Van Cu Road – Nguyen Chi Thanh Road – Thao Veng Road – Internal road to Tam Thuy Tan (U-turn) – Internal road to Tam Thuy Tan – Thao Veng Road – Con Dao Airport, operating in both directions.
Following the opening of bus route 173, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction plans to continue working with investors to deploy other bus routes. According to the plan, the Con Dao public transport network will consist of six routes: in addition to route 173, routes 174 (Con Dao Central Main Road), 175 (Con Dao Central – Ben Dam Port), 176 (Northwest – Con Dao Central Area), 177 (Southeast – Con Dao Central Area), and 178 (Tourist Attractions Connector).
It is reported that the six routes will have a total operating mileage of approximately 74 kilometers, and are expected to cover about 90% of the Special Economic Zone's road network, effectively connecting major transportation hubs such as Ben Dam Port and Con Dao Airport with the central area (Con Dao Market), further improving the local public transport service system.
