Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On October 28th, the Second Coast Guard Command of Vietnam held a meeting in Thanh Son Commune, Da Nang City, to arrange and deploy vessels for maritime operations, focusing on strengthening patrols, inspections, and control during the peak season for IUU fishing.
Strengthening maritime patrols, inspections, and control, resolutely "declaring war" on illegal fishing, and striving to completely terminate illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities before the fifth inspection by the European Commission, with the determination to lift the "yellow card" warning by 2025, is an extremely important task.
Rear Admiral Nguyen Quang Tuan, Commander of the Second Coast Guard Command, requested close cooperation and coordination among all agencies, units, and vessels, emphasizing proactive observation and reconnaissance to ensure no target is missed, especially fishing vessels that have lost VMS connectivity within the patrol and control area.
Naval formations carrying out these missions must promptly detect, intercept, inspect, and control 100% of fishing vessels exhibiting suspicious behavior, deviating from their routes, losing VMS connectivity, or operating without proper documentation. They must resolutely seize and thoroughly handle any vessels violating regulations according to their authority, and transfer them to coastal local governments and public security departments for legal processing in accordance with prescribed procedures. Furthermore, they must adhere to the Prime Minister's directives to completely terminate IUU fishing activities.
Simultaneously, vessels and naval formations carrying out these missions must regularly report violations to the regional command as required, and be prepared to perform other tasks upon receiving orders.
The Second Coast Guard Regional Command stated that in the past, the department conducted 13 patrols, inspected and controlled 26 fishing vessels, and monitored 322 fishing vessels through the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS).
In addition, the Second Coast Guard Command has intensified its public awareness campaign against IUU fishing, organizing three rounds of awareness activities in Da Nang, Quang Ngai, and Gia Lai provinces for nearly 300 fishermen, boat owners, and seafood buyers, distributing hundreds of leaflets and informational materials.
