Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On October 27, the 379th Ship of the 167th Brigade of the Second Military Region of the Vietnamese Navy, commanded by Colonel Pham Van Phuong, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the 167th Brigade, conducted joint exercises with the HMNZS Aotearoa, a New Zealand supply ship commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Robert Welford.

The two sides conducted joint formation maneuvers, practiced courteous procedures for encounters at sea, exchanged information, practiced international signal communications, and implemented the "Code of Unplanned Encounters at Sea." All aspects of the exercise were closely and synchronously coordinated and completed as planned.

Previously, from October 23 to 27, the HMNZS Aotearoa docked at Long Ut Port for a courtesy visit to Ho Chi Minh City. While in Ho Chi Minh City, the ship's crew engaged in various exchanges with representatives from the Second Military Region Command. The 167th Brigade also sent a working group to visit and exchange views, jointly finalizing plans and programs for joint exercises. The brigade also visited the supply ship Teyaroa and exchanged views on logistical activities aboard the vessel.

Captain Pham Van Phuong stated that the joint maritime exercise provided an opportunity for the brigade's officers and soldiers to improve their foreign language proficiency, ship handling and collision avoidance skills, handle unexpected encounters at sea, master the use of signal flags, hand flags, and international navigational signals, acquire knowledge of maritime safety and security, and enhance their coordination and situational management capabilities at sea. This exercise will help strengthen cooperation, understanding, and trust between the Vietnam People's Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy.

Captain Pham Van Phuong stated that after the exercise, all parties successfully completed all content and plans, achieved the established objectives and requirements, ensured the absolute safety of personnel, vessels, and technical equipment, and demonstrated the skills, professionalism, work ethic, and international cooperation of the 167th Brigade's officers and soldiers, contributing to consolidating and strengthening friendly and cooperative relations, promoting development, and maintaining peace, stability, and security at sea.
