Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA) held joint army training exercises, "Cooperation-2025," in Singapore from December 10th to 17th.
According to a report by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent in Singapore, this year's joint army training focused on urban counter-terrorism operations. Ninety soldiers from the Singapore 3rd Division and the SAF's 1st Special Operations Battalion participated, along with 90 soldiers from the PLA's 74th Group Army of the Southern Theater Command. The exercise included a battalion-level field exercise, the first of its kind to be conducted at SAFTI City. SAFTI City is Singapore's first high-rise urban training base, equipped with smart devices that provide real-time feedback to support various types of training, including counter-terrorism operations.
The soldiers also participated in tactical drills, live-fire exercises with small arms, and reconnaissance, basic patrols, and joint operations using drones.
At the opening ceremony, Colonel Yow Thiam Poh, Chief of Staff of the Singapore 3rd Division, stated that the "Cooperative Exercise" helps build mutual trust between the People's Liberation Army of China and the Singapore Armed Forces, while also enhancing relations and strengthening unity between the people of both sides. Colonel Chen Wenyan, Brigade Commander of the 74th Group Army and co-host of the opening ceremony, also emphasized that this is a valuable opportunity for soldiers to improve their skills, enhance their combat capabilities, and build consensus.
The "Cooperative Exercise," initiated in 2009, aims to highlight the long-standing, close, and friendly defense relationship between Singapore and China, while also strengthening friendly ties between the two peoples. (End)
