Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the morning of February 10th, the annual technical committee meeting of the Green CUP project was held in Vientiane, Laos, with a stakeholder dialogue meeting held concurrently that afternoon.

More than 80 representatives from Lao government agencies, international development partners, NGOs, and coffee and tea industry-related organizations participated in the meeting, discussing experience exchange and deepening cooperation to jointly promote the construction of a sustainable value chain for the Lao coffee and tea industries.

At the stakeholder dialogue meeting, the French Development Agency (AFD) introduced the key investment areas for the Green CUP project's additional funding. Partner organizations including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Luxembourg Development Agency (LuxDev), the Lao Farmers' Association, the Lao Ministry of Agriculture (DGRV), the International Trade Centre (ITC), and the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (Helvetas) exchanged views on the development path and subsequent implementation measures for the coffee and tea industry.

The meeting focused on in-depth discussions of core areas such as SME financing mechanisms, human resource development, trade and export facilitation, and the construction of smallholder production organizations, building consensus for the priority development of the industry. The relevant exchanges effectively promoted strategic synergy among all parties, explored cooperation opportunities, and further strengthened collaboration and linkage among Lao national authorities, technical institutions, production organizations, and international development partners.

Representatives from various partners also shared their views on issues such as cooperative construction, market access, industrial planning, and farmer support mechanisms. The meeting concluded by emphasizing the need to continuously promote multi-stakeholder cooperation and focus on solving key challenges in industrial development, including optimizing policy coordination, broadening financing channels for small farmers and SMEs, and strengthening the training of professional talent across the entire industry chain.

The Green CUP project will continue to build an open and inclusive dialogue platform, ensuring that development measures are tailored to local conditions and gather diverse perspectives through broad stakeholder participation, jointly exploring sustainable development solutions for the coffee and tea industry.

  Project and Background Introduction

The Green CUP project (Enhancing the Green Economy through High-Quality, Climate-Resistant, and Inclusive Value Chains) is a project jointly funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the EU Delegation to Laos under the "European Team" initiative. It aims to help more than 3,000 Lao families build inclusive and climate-resistant coffee and tea value chains.

The EU Global Gateway, launched by the EU in 2021, is an international cooperation strategy dedicated to building sustainable and trustworthy global cooperation to address global challenges such as climate change, improving health systems, and enhancing the competitiveness and security of global supply chains.

Building upon the implementation of the Lao People's Democratic Republic's European Joint Plan 2016-2020, the EU, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and other European partners jointly formulated the Lao People's Democratic Republic's European Team Strategy 2021-2025.
