From July 1994 to September 1996, Long Yong worked successively in the Yinjiang Township Government and the Organization Department of the Dong District Committee of Panzhihua City; from September 1996 to December 2002, he worked in the Panzhihua Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, serving successively as Deputy Director and Director of the Organization and Publicity Department, Director of the Youth and Children's Department, and Deputy Secretary; from December 2002 to April 2013, he served successively as a member of the Standing Committee of the Renhe District Committee of Panzhihua City, Director of the Publicity Department, Secretary of the Panzhihua Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, Deputy Secretary-General and Deputy Director of the General Office of the Municipal Committee, and Director of the Municipal Tourism Bureau.
