Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the 7th, the 2025 Kunming Mohan-Mengla Happy Border Health Run kicked off. More than 500 running enthusiasts from all over China measured the border track with their footsteps, connecting the open vitality of the port with the warm charm of the border villages.
Near the Tropic of Cancer, southwest China and northern Laos share a hot and humid climate and lush vegetation. Mohan in China and Boten in Laos are nestled deep in the tropical rainforest, their mountains and rivers connected. The transformation of Mohan, this border port, began in the early 1990s when China and Laos respectively established Mohan and Boten as national-level ports. In 2016, the China-Laos Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone was established. In 2022, Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, took over the administration of Mohan, jointly building it with Xishuangbanna Prefecture into the Mohan International Port City, transforming this border town into a new highland of opening up to the outside world.
Wang Yong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the China-Laos Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone, stated that this health run is not only a vivid testament to the accelerated development of Mohan International Port City, showcasing the achievements in infrastructure improvement, enhanced livelihoods, and optimized customs clearance efficiency; it is also a vivid practice of border residents sharing the benefits of development and implementing the national fitness strategy.
As the starting gun fired, the runners shot off from the starting line like arrows, running along National Highway 213 towards Shanggang Village. This 5-kilometer course, extending from the Mohan Railway Station square to Shanggang Village, a model village for rural revitalization, is a "road of integration" connecting beautiful villages and linking modern life with local sentiments.
Alongside the health run was the Shanggang Village market (a local ethnic folk activity). Vendors set up small tables, with various Dai delicacies neatly displayed in bamboo tubes and winnowing baskets, attracting runners who followed the aromas. Runners, their sweat dried, sat beside stilted houses, enjoying delicious food and chatting about the exhilaration of running while savoring Dai cuisine. The lively atmosphere and sporting enthusiasm intertwined in the village, creating a vibrant rural scene.
In recent years, Mohan has hosted several branded events, including the Orienteering League, the "Beautiful Countryside" Orienteering Rally, and the Mohan Station of the "Yunnan 3x3 Super League," using sports as a medium to activate public enthusiasm for fitness and build an important platform for showcasing the city's image, promoting cross-border exchanges, and driving consumption upgrades.
It is reported that this event was guided by the Management Committee of the China-Laos Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone, hosted by Yunnan Daily Media (Group) Co., Ltd., and jointly organized by the Mengla County People's Government, the Social Affairs Bureau of the Management Committee of the China-Laos Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone, and Yunnan Spring Festival Gala Media Co., Ltd.
