Phnom Penh police have arrested eight Cambodian suspects in a kidnapping case involving Chinese citizens.

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Recently, the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Serious Crimes Division successfully cracked a kidnapping and extortion case targeting Chinese citizens, arresting all eight Cambodian suspects involved. The extortion amount was approximately US$5,200.

  On the 22nd of this month, Ai Sopheak, Director of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Serious Crimes Division, held a press conference to announce details of the case and the identities of the suspects. He clarified that the police will transfer the eight suspects to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for trial and prosecution in accordance with the law, resolutely upholding the dignity of the law and social fairness and justice.

  It is reported that the incident occurred at 3:20 AM on the 15th of this month. The Phnom Penh Municipal Police Serious Crimes Division received a report that a Chinese citizen had been kidnapped and extorted in an apartment on Street 352, Sangkat Boeung Keng Kang 1, Chamkarmon District, with the amount involved reaching US$5,200. Upon receiving the report, the Serious Crimes Division quickly activated its emergency response mechanism, reviewing CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas to identify key clues. To ensure the successful execution of the operation, police further collaborated with police stations in 14 districts of Phnom Penh, as well as police stations in Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville provinces, establishing a cross-provincial cooperation system. Through close coordination and precise deployment by multiple departments, all eight Cambodian men involved in the case were successfully apprehended.

  During the arrests, law enforcement officers seized a large amount of crucial evidence, including two vehicles used in the crimes, four handguns, a quantity of ammunition, and multiple pairs of handcuffs, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent investigation.

  In its statement, Phnom Penh police emphasized that the successful resolution of this case fully demonstrates the Cambodian law enforcement agencies' firm resolve and professional capabilities in combating cross-provincial and cross-border crime and maintaining social order and stability. Moving forward, Cambodian police will continue to strengthen law enforcement efforts, improve cross-regional cooperation mechanisms, and fully protect the personal and property safety of Chinese and foreign citizens in Cambodia.
