Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The 2025 Tropical Coastal Cities Exchange Activity kicked off in Sanya, Hainan Province on the evening of the 18th. Representatives from the tourism industry of 37 tourist destinations (cities) in 27 countries and regions, as well as heads of international organizations, gathered to begin a three-day study tour and exchange activity focusing on the sustainable development of tourism in tropical coastal cities.
“Tourism is an industry heavily reliant on the natural environment and climate. Tourist destinations need to find a development path suitable for themselves and maximize the positive effects of climate,” said Wu Pu, Director of the Strategic Research Institute of the China Tourism Academy. He cited Hainan as an example, suggesting a strong focus on developing climate-based tourism, winter tourism, ecotourism, and climate therapy to create a healthy and vibrant tropical coastal tourist city.
Huang Shunhua, Ambassador for Greater China of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), said in an interview that Hainan is very suitable for developing self-driving tours, especially promoting self-driving tour products to international tourists. He believes that while Hainan's tourism infrastructure is relatively complete, there is still room for improvement in areas such as language and service details. He also emphasized the need to increase publicity regarding inbound tourism regulations, such as temporary driver's licenses, to provide convenience for tourists.
Huang Shunhua also stated that Sanya's practices in enhancing tourist experience, protecting marine ecology, and promoting local culture provide important reference for global coastal tourism destinations. In his view, Sanya's successful experience vividly illustrates how a tourist destination can achieve a harmonious balance between sustainable development and inclusive growth while maintaining its unique charm.
"Sanya is actively exploring new models for sustainable development of coastal tourism, with 'coexistence of nature and humanity' as its core concept," said Fan Weizheng, Vice Mayor of Sanya, in his speech. He added that the city provides high-quality experiences to over 34 million tourists annually by building a comprehensive tourism service system and promoting strict ecological and environmental protection and the revitalization and inheritance of cultural heritage.
Fan Weizheng stated that in today's rapidly changing global tourism market and with ecological protection becoming increasingly important, how can tropical coastal cities maintain their tourism "heat" and achieve a win-win situation of protecting natural resources and sustainable economic development? "We look forward to sharing our successful experiences with our partners, exploring innovative development paths, and working together to address the changes and challenges in the global tourism market."
From the 19th to the 20th, domestic and international guests participating in the event will delve into several representative tourism and cultural sites in Sanya, conducting on-site visits around themes such as "Sustainable Tourism and Ecological Restoration," "High-End Tourism and Experience Upgrading," and "Folk Customs Inheritance and Cultural Innovation," experiencing the diverse facets of Sanya's tourism development.
