Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – “Qinghai Province has a very solid scientific foundation in ecological protection and climate change response. We want to establish a regular cooperation mechanism to complement each other’s strengths in data sharing, talent training, and experience exchange, and strengthen the effectiveness of ecological conservation cooperation between the two regions,” said Lai Kin-ming, Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, to a reporter from China News Service on April 29.

From April 26 to April 29, a delegation from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government visited the Qinghai Lake Przewalski’s Gazelle Conservation and Research Center and the Sanjiangyuan National Park Administration Ecological Exhibition Center, among other places, to promote in-depth cooperation between Qinghai and Hong Kong in ecological protection, national park construction, and other fields, and to foster practical cooperation between the two sides.

Qinghai is the first province in China to pilot the national park system and is currently the only national park demonstration province in China. It is home to a large number of rare and endangered wild animals, including snow leopards, Tibetan antelopes, and Przewalski’s gazelles, and has accumulated rich experience in wildlife rescue and conservation.

In recent years, Qinghai Province has rescued and cared for more than 15 snow leopards, two of which have been successfully released back into the wild. During this period, several firsts were achieved in China, including the use of MRI technology for neurological diagnosis of snow leopards, cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation, tumor resection, dental root canal treatment, and facial plastic surgery.

"Ocean Park Hong Kong has cared for over 80 threatened species and collaborated with many domestic and international organizations to protect endangered species in the wild. We have also conducted research on snow leopard conservation in the Sanjiangyuan region," Hong Kong Ocean Park CEO Wong Si-fai told China News Service on April 29. He added that Qinghai's advanced technology and meticulous wildlife conservation efforts in high-altitude areas have left a deep impression on him, particularly the dedication and hard work of the ecological rangers.

Wong Si-fai hopes to establish an educational cooperation mechanism with Qinghai, using the internet to help more Hong Kong youth understand the significant role of the Sanjiangyuan region as a national ecological security barrier and its important connection to global climate change and international biodiversity.
