Myanmar delegation attends the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting to deepen regional digital cooperation.

  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – From January 15th to 16th, U Myo Tun Oo, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Union of Myanmar, led a delegation to Hanoi, Vietnam, to attend the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministerial Meeting (ADGMIN) and related dialogue partner meetings.

  The meeting, themed "Adaptive ASEAN – From Connectivity to Connected Intelligence," focused on the development of ASEAN's digital sector, with key discussions on the safe, ethical, and inclusive use of artificial intelligence (AI) and its application in traditional connectivity areas, while also exploring pathways to address emerging challenges.

  U Myo Tun Oo expressed support for the meeting's theme, stating that it aligns with ASEAN's goals of strengthening connectivity through AI, building a trustworthy and integrated system, and protecting citizens' interests. He pointed out that member states are advancing the construction of AI governance frameworks, simultaneously improving digital infrastructure, promoting trustworthy cross-border data flows, and building people-oriented digital governments. He emphasized that ASEAN's AI governance needs to take into account the differences in digital technology development among countries, allowing for flexible implementation at the national level, and reiterated Myanmar's commitment to collaborating with ASEAN countries to implement the digital transformation goals under the ASEAN Digital Master Plan 2030.

  During the meeting, participants reviewed the implementation of projects planned for 2025, approved projects and supporting funds for 2026, and reached a consensus on cooperation methods in areas such as combating online fraud, strengthening cybersecurity, and promoting the development of artificial intelligence systems. The meeting concluded on the afternoon of January 16th with the approval and release ceremony of the "ASEAN Digital Master Plan 2030" and the issuance of the "Hanoi Digital Declaration."

  On the evening of January 15th, U Myo Tun Oo attended a state banquet hosted by the Vietnamese government at the Melia Hotel in Hanoi and the 2026 ASEAN Digital Awards ceremony. The Tem Europa team from Mandalay, Myanmar, won third prize in the digital entrepreneurship category for their project, "Green Earth: Waste Management, Creating a Better World!"

  Previously, on January 14th, at the invitation of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, U Myo Tun Oo attended the 2026 China-ASEAN Digital Ecosystem Cooperation and Exchange Activity and delivered a keynote speech. He stated that digital transformation needs to transcend basic connectivity and move towards intelligence, adaptability, and innovation, calling on all parties to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, expand development opportunities through technological cooperation, and benefit the people of the region.
