Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) reports that Vietnam's tourism industry achieved breakthrough growth in 2025, receiving nearly 21.2 million international tourists, a year-on-year increase of over 20.4%, and a 17.8% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels, setting a new historical record and demonstrating a strong and sustainable recovery momentum, effectively driving the growth of the service sector.
Revenue from tourism-related industries also performed well. The total revenue from accommodation and food services reached approximately VND 843.1 trillion (equivalent to RMB 227.8 billion), a year-on-year increase of 14.6%; tourism service revenue reached approximately VND 93.9 trillion (equivalent to RMB 25.3 billion), an increase of 20.2%.
In terms of entry methods, air travel accounted for over 17.8 million tourists, representing 84.3% of all arrivals, highlighting the crucial role of air transport and the international route network; land and sea travel also maintained growth rates of 10% to 20% or more.
In terms of source markets, Asia was the largest source of tourists, accounting for 78.6% with 16.6 million visitors, followed by Europe with approximately 2.8 million. China led with over 5.3 million visitors, followed by South Korea with 4.3 million. Taiwan, the United States, and Japan were also important source markets.
The large Asian market was the core driver of tourism growth. Tourist numbers from China and India increased by 41.3% and nearly 49% year-on-year, respectively, while Japan saw a 14.4% increase. Southeast Asian countries also experienced strong growth, while the European market saw a 38.8% increase driven by short-term visa-free policies.
Faced with global tourism competition, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism guided local governments and businesses to focus on green tourism development, improve service quality and human resource levels, and increase marketing efforts. In addition to traditional products, Vietnam is developing tourism products that combine culture, nature, and the ocean, and investing in innovative categories such as medical tourism and volunteer tourism. Tourist destinations are also continuously improving the visitor experience by applying modern technology to develop virtual reality tourism and upgrade guided tour systems. (End)
