Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports released a report on the 5th stating that Thailand is expected to receive 32.9 million foreign tourists in 2025, a 7.23% decrease compared to 2024.

Foreign tourists will bring in 1.53 trillion baht in tourism revenue for Thailand that year, a 4.71% decrease year-on-year.

The top five source markets for tourists visiting Thailand are Malaysia (4.5 million), China (4.4 million), India (2.4 million), Russia (1.8 million), and South Korea (1.5 million).

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports stated that the decline in foreign tourist numbers is due to multiple factors, including a series of unforeseen events in Thailand that dampened tourist confidence, and competitive pressure from neighboring countries' tourism industries.

Furthermore, external shocks such as the devastating earthquake in Myanmar and ongoing regional conflicts led to potential tourists canceling their trips. Severe flooding in southern Thailand, the political situation in Thailand, and a weak global tourism environment also contributed to the decrease in tourists.

Despite these challenges, domestic tourism has alleviated some of the pressure on the tourism industry's decline. In 2025, Thais made 2.0237 trillion domestic trips, a 2.7% year-on-year increase, generating 1.16 trillion baht in revenue, a 3.69% year-on-year increase. Total tourism revenue for Thailand reached 2.7 trillion baht in 2025.

Thailand Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thapenny stated that the tourism industry target for 2026 is 36.7 million inbound foreign tourists and 205 million domestic tourist trips. (End)
