Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Lao Ministry of Health recently released the core objectives of the "National Nursing Development Plan 2030," summarizing the country's progress in the field of continuing professional development for nurses and midwives. On Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Health Ms. Apong Vissathep chaired a special meeting at Myitpha Hospital to deliver a report on the current state of nursing professional development.
Medical staff from hospitals across Lao provinces, as well as representatives from the World Health Organization in Laos, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan National Institute for Health and Welfare, among other development partners, attended the meeting. Ms. Apong stated that in recent years, the Ministry of Health has continuously promoted the improvement of nursing standards and the optimization of nursing education quality, focusing on strengthening the supply of primary healthcare services to fully adapt to the needs of modern health system development.
The meeting provided a comprehensive explanation of the goals and future direction of the "National Nursing Development Plan 2030" to provincial nursing leaders and relevant stakeholders, clarifying the priority task for 2026 – deepening the construction of a continuing professional development system for nurses and unifying qualification certification standards across provinces. The participating parties reached a consensus on the plan's content, finalizing the monitoring and evaluation framework and a six-month monitoring plan, providing institutional guarantees for the implementation of related work in each province by 2026.
The ultimate goal of the plan is to promote the obtaining of continuing professional development institution certifications for provincial health departments and hospitals, build a standardized and regulated nursing service system, and comprehensively improve the overall level of healthcare services in Laos.
