Laos and China deepen strategic relationship at Boao Forum

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Lao Prime Minister Somxay Siphandone and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening political, economic, and security cooperation at a meeting held in Hainan Province, China, on March 26.

  This meeting took place during Prime Minister Somxay's attendance at the Boao Forum for Asia 2025, which runs from March 26 to 28.

  The Boao Forum for Asia is a non-governmental, non-profit international organization that provides a platform for dialogue among government leaders, business leaders, and academics from Asia and other continents to address key regional and global issues.

  The two leaders exchanged views on the socio-economic development of their respective countries and highly praised the strong traditional friendship under the "Four Goods" principle and the Lao-China community with a shared future.

  They commended the progress of the "Action Plan for Building a Lao-China Community with a Shared Future 2025," particularly in cooperation on political and security issues, trade, investment, and infrastructure.

  The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen trade, investment, and tourism, while reaffirming their support for the further development of the Lao-China Railway, a major driver of economic growth and connectivity.

  Prime Minister Somxay congratulated Laos on the successful hosting of the Third Session of the 14th National People's Congress and the Boao Forum, emphasizing China's role in promoting regional cooperation and aligning with the Belt and Road Initiative.

  He also conveyed greetings to Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

  On the same occasion, Prime Minister Somxay thanked China for its continued assistance to Laos in addressing economic and financial challenges and for its support of Laos's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2024.

  He reiterated the Lao Party and government's commitment to strengthening relations with China in all areas.

  Deputy Prime Minister Dinh welcomed Prime Minister Somxay's participation in the Boao Forum, stating that his visit would further deepen bilateral relations. He stressed the importance of continuing cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and security within the framework of the strategic partnership.

  Both sides acknowledged the significance of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding on the Global Security Initiative and emphasized their shared vision for regional stability and development.
