Laos and Australia strengthen economic ties

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – As part of Australia's Southeast Asia economic strategy, Laos and Australia are cooperating to advance trade and investment relations.

  From March 25th to 26th, Australian Ambassador to Laos, Ms. Megan Jones, visited Savannakhet Province to foster deeper trade and investment ties.

  Ms. Jones visited the Savannakhet-Sino Special Economic Zone and discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between stakeholders in the zone and Australian businesses.

  According to the Australian Embassy in Laos, the Ambassador emphasized the potential for Australian investment in the zone, particularly in logistics and agriculture, and the importance of establishing connections with key businesses in the province.

  Mr. Charles Olson, Australia's Business Ambassador to Laos, accompanied the Ambassador to learn about opportunities to invest in Laos and connect with developers and investors in the zone.

  Furthermore, the visit provided Mr. Olson with an opportunity to explore the investment prospects, policies, and ongoing and future development projects in the zone.

  The Ambassador stressed Australia's commitment to deepening two-way trade and investment, with a focus on business opportunities in Lao agriculture, natural resources, and green energy. In addition, the Ambassador reiterated Australia's interest in understanding the unique challenges and opportunities in Savannakhet Province's investment environment and emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships for promoting regional economic growth and investment.

  During the visit, Ms. Jones also met with Ms. Lingthong Sengtavan, Deputy Governor of Savannakhet Province, to discuss strengthening Australia-Laos cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

  This visit provided Mr. Olson with an opportunity to meet with Australian alumni in the local business community, members of the Savannakhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Lao Young Entrepreneurs Association, and to learn about their role in supporting businesses in Savannakhet Province.

  Laos and Australia have cooperated in many areas, such as the Australian-funded Champasak blueberry farm.

  Agriculture is central to Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy - 2040, and investments aim to strengthen food production and rural employment.
