Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Laos, as the 2024 ASEAN Chair, has identified nine priorities under the slogan "Strengthening ASEAN Connectivity and Enhancing ASEAN Strength." These include four priorities related to strengthening ASEAN connectivity (economic integration and connectivity, building a fully sustainable future, digital transformation, and culture and arts) and five priorities related to enhancing ASEAN strength (developing an organizational strategy for implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, maintaining ASEAN's central role, and promoting cooperation in the areas of environment, women and children, and health).
On July 11, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, in an interview with reporters regarding the progress of preparations for the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings, stated that preparations are complete in terms of accommodation, service tools, communications, security, internet access, and tourist attractions.
Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith stated that the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting is expected to adopt a Joint Statement, discussing the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the development of strategies for its implementation in 2045.
The 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting is of particular importance, preparing for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings to be held from October 8th to 11th.
Successfully assuming the ASEAN chairmanship in 2024 will not only enhance Laos's standing in international and regional forums but also provide a valuable opportunity to promote Lao trade, investment, tourism, and the dissemination of its fine traditions.
Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith believes that against the backdrop of a still complex, volatile, and unpredictable global and regional situation, ASEAN needs to maintain its core role and unity, address challenges, seize opportunities, and build an ASEAN Community that is interconnected and strengthens ASEAN's capabilities.
