
Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On February 24th, the Mahayana Temple in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and to respectfully enshrine the statue of the Sixth Patriarch. Princess Sirindhorn presided over the event, which was attended by the Deputy Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, Somdet Thongchai; the Secretary-General of the Chaipatthana Foundation, Sumei; the Director of the Religious Affairs Bureau, Chayapon; and Venerable Mingsheng, President of the Guangdong Buddhist Association, among others.
At the ceremony, Princess Sirindhorn unveiled the plaques for the "Thailand Chinese Buddhist Cultural Exchange Center" and the "Chong Sheng Mahayana Buddhist Scriptures Sino-Thai Translation Group," paid homage to the statue of the Sixth Patriarch of Chinese Buddhism, Huineng, and witnessed the Guangdong Buddhist Association donating over 1,600 volumes of Buddhist scriptures to the Thailand Chinese Buddhist Cultural Exchange Center.
The Chong Sheng Mahayana Buddhist Scriptures Sino-Thai Translation Group was established at the initiative of Princess Sirindhorn and is dedicated to translating and disseminating Chinese Buddhist scriptures. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, the Thailand Chinese Buddhist Cultural Exchange Center was established based on the previous achievements of the translation group, aiming to build a new platform for Buddhist exchange between China and Thailand.
On February 25, Ambassador Han Zhiqiang met with Venerable Mingsheng, President of the Guangdong Buddhist Association, and Venerable Guangdu, Abbot of Dacheng Temple, to exchange views on strengthening cultural exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Thai Buddhism.
