Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The 2024 Cambodian Water Festival, a major traditional festival, will be held from November 14th to 16th. To ensure the smooth, safe, and orderly conduct of this year's event, the Cambodian National and International Festivals Committee conducted a detailed review of the preparations on September 9th.
According to Government Advisor and Committee Secretary-General Chin Khe Neth, preliminary data shows that over 300 dragon boat teams have registered to participate in this year's Water Festival. During the three-day festival, 33 illuminated boats will participate in the parade, three fewer than last year.
Chen Khe Neth pointed out that based on past experience, the committee has assessed the overall situation, objectives, location, and timing of this year's event, focusing on maintaining order, safety, hygiene, the environment, power supply, and booth setup to create a joyful festive atmosphere for the public and international tourists.
Furthermore, the committee is paying special attention to the gates, flags, banners, and lighting arrangements at the event site to highlight national symbols and allow domestic and international tourists to better understand Cambodia's rich history.
The Water Festival is one of Cambodia's three major traditional festivals, besides the New Year and the Day of the Dead. Held annually in November, it lasts for three days and symbolizes the end of the rainy season and the arrival of the fishing season, while also expressing gratitude to nature and the harvest. This year's Water Festival will include traditional activities such as dragon boat races, lantern boat parades, moon worship, and eating flat rice. Athletes from all over will gather in Phnom Penh to participate in this grand dragon boat race.
