Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Since the early morning of July 12th, Battambang, Sihanoukville, Koh Kong, and other provinces in Cambodia have experienced continuous heavy rainfall, triggering regional flooding. This round of flooding has caused extensive inundation of roads, bridges, and farmland, severely impacting the daily lives and livelihoods of residents. Currently, the Cambodian National Disaster Management Committee, in conjunction with local governments at all levels, has fully activated its emergency response mechanism and is making every effort to carry out disaster prevention and relief work.

As of the morning of July 13th, the situation in Battambang province continued to worsen, with river levels in Ratanamundo district continuing to rise sharply. To prevent further spread of the danger, the Battambang Multipurpose Dam urgently opened three sluice gates, raising each gate by one meter to discharge floodwaters. The local government issued an emergency warning, urging residents along the Seng Kyi River and in all low-lying areas to closely monitor water levels and be prepared to evacuate at any time. Meanwhile, Sen Loc district in Battambang province was also hit by floods, causing complete paralysis of regional transportation and severe damage to large areas of farmland. Currently, the provincial police department has assembled professional rescue teams and is on standby to carry out emergency rescue and disaster relief work.

Due to continuous heavy rains, Koh Kong province has tightened safety controls throughout the province. Since July 12, due to rapidly rising river levels and strong currents, the local government in Khai Phra district has completely suspended ferry operations to prevent water-related accidents. In addition, several key tourist attractions, including the Khai Phra eco-tourism area, have been urgently closed, suspending tourist reception until water levels recede to safe levels before resuming operations.

Severe urban flooding has occurred in Kampong Sila district of Sihanoukville province, with floodwaters covering many roads. The local government has issued an emergency safety warning, urging drivers and residents to exercise caution when wading through the floodwaters and to prevent drowning, vehicle stalling, and other accidents. Kampot city, which was previously flooded by heavy rains, has now completely recovered from the flooding, and production and daily life in the area are gradually returning to normal.

A spokesperson for Cambodia's National Committee for Disaster Management stated that water levels in Sam Lo district of Battambang province and Kampong Sila district of Sihanoukville province have begun to recede, but persistent light rain continues in the areas, resulting in a slow overall receding rate. Complete elimination of flooding will take time.

According to meteorological and disaster monitoring, coastal and mountainous areas of Cambodia are still experiencing predominantly rainy weather, and the risk of secondary disasters has not yet been eliminated. The National Committee for Disaster Management continues to closely monitor rainfall, water levels, and geological changes, focusing on strengthening dynamic monitoring of areas prone to flash floods and landslides, such as waterfalls, canyons, and mountainous regions. Simultaneously, it urges governments at all levels to fulfill their disaster prevention responsibilities, ensure sufficient rescue resources, respond promptly to emergencies, and do everything possible to protect the lives and property of the people and minimize all types of losses caused by disasters.
